iSOFT has won contracts totalling £1m for a technology refresh of laboratory information systems at nine NHS trusts in Wales. The deal includes iSOFT's latest i.Laboratory TP application providing an InterSystems Caché environment for better performance and greater resilience. It also ensures that all NHS trusts in Wales are running the same version of i.Laboratory TP as two other trusts upgraded earlier this year.
IBM (NYSE: IBM) researchers unveiled a prototype visualization software that allows doctors to interact with medical data the same way they interact with their patients: by looking at the human body. Created at IBM's Zurich Research Lab, the technology uses an avatar - a 3D representation of the human body - to allow doctors to visualize patient medical records in an entirely new way.
WHO and its partners called for increased research to improve patient safety. They emphasized the need for intensified research at an international conference opened recently in Porto, Portugal. The conference on Patient safety research: shaping the European agenda will examine evidence showing that harm from medical care poses a substantial burden in terms of suffering and death in Europe and around the world.
Some 37 national grid projects have teamed up as part of the European Grid Initiative (EGI) to set up a distributed computing network that will enable laboratories to collaborate via thousands of computers merged into one supercomputer. The project is bringing together national experts in order to set up the design of a sustainable European Grid Infrastructure.

Santo Holding (Germany) GmbH of Hexal founders Strüngmann secured a 25 percent share in the eHealth specialist InterComponentWare AG (ICW). This transaction was performed by the purchase of newly issued shares in the context of an increase in capital stock. The present owners of ICW do not surrender any shares in this transaction.
For the first time, certification will take place at the World of Health IT Conference and Exhibition, hosted by the Austria Center in Vienna. WHIT '07 runs from 22-25 October and the exam will be held on the afternoon of the first day. There is a pre-registration deadline of 8 October. Seating is limited and test slots will be filled on a first-in/first-confirmed basis.
