Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust Selects Allscripts Sunrise

AllscriptsMaidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust has selected Allscripts Sunrise as its electronic health record, in a move that further solidifies the company's position in the South East of England. The trust, which runs two major hospitals and regional Cancer Center, already uses the Allscripts patient administration system, following a go-live in October last year. It will now roll-out the Sunrise clinical suite in a phased deployment that will focus initially on order communications and test results, clinical documentation, patient tracking and vital signs.

Miles Scott, chief executive of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust said: "My ambition for the trust is to deliver outstanding staff and patient experience. Sunrise will support that by giving clinicians the information they need to deliver excellent patient care. At the same time, investment in digital solutions will give us the data we need to respond to the demand and financial pressures we are facing."

The move represents a significant strengthening of the trust's relationship with Allscripts. Steven Brain, vice president and UK managing director of Allscripts, said: "It is always a pleasure to welcome a new member to the Allscripts Sunrise family, but it is particularly gratifying to have Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells on board. Its decision to expand its relationship with Allscripts is a huge vote of confidence in us as a digitization partner, and we look forward to working with them on a full breadth and depth EHR deployment."

The move also strengthens Allscripts position in Kent, where three out of four acute trusts are now Allscripts customers.

Neighboring East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is an Allscripts PAS and Sunrise customer, having signed up for Sunrise in December 2016. Nearby Medway NHS Foundation Trust is an Allscripts PAS customer.

All organizations are looking to work more closely together within an emerging integrated care system (ICS) that will need to be underpinned by the effective exchange of information between care providers and more sophisticated analysis of data.

Steven Brain added: "As organizations across Kent start to form an ICS, it is vital that the EPRs used by the area's main hospitals are open and interoperable and ready to share information with each other. Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells' decision to select Sunrise puts the whole area in a much better position to move forward with this agenda, and demonstrates the value of Allscripts commitment to open, connected communities of care."
