The eHealth landscape offers both opportunities and barriers to policy makers in the EU 27 member states which are not just about technical issues of interoperability and data security and confidentiality. 
Essex County Council has reported on the success of its free Telecare Home Safety Service, which is enabling elderly people in Essex to live safely and independently in their own homes. The service, which has already benefitted over 2500 residents aged 80 and over in the last 10 months, is free to sign up to until the 31st of March 2010*. 
Agfa HealthCare, a leading provider of diagnostic imaging and healthcare IT solutions, has expanded its agreement with the Basque Healthcare Service's Osakidetza facilities in Spain to extend its IMPAX Picture and Archiving and Communications System (PACS) to a further 15 sites, in addition to the 28 facilities it currently serves.

At the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2010 in Vienna, Siemens Healthcare presented its innovative ultrasound solutions. The highlight this year was the new release of its premium Acuson S2000 ultrasound system featuring significant advancements in ARFI technology (Acoustic Radiation Force Imaging) for the detection and quantification of tissue.
