Carestream Health Reports European Orders For Affordable New Wireless, Cassette-Sized DRX-1 System

Carestream HealthCarestream Health has reported broad-based interest in the industry's first wireless, cassette-size detector - the CARESTREAM DRX-1 System - scheduled to be available this summer. A number of European healthcare facilities have placed advance orders with the UK, Germany and Austria leading the way with orders from:

UK

  • The Countess of Chester Hospital in Chester
  • North Manchester General Hospital
  • Royal Oldham Hospital
  • Huddersfield Royal Infirmary

Germany

  • Gemeinschaftspraxis of Radiology and Neuroradiology and Centre for Minimal Invasive Therapy, Berlin
  • HELIOS Klinikum Emil von Behring, the academic teaching hospital of the Charité - University of Medicine, Berlin
  • Röntgenpraxis Gropiusstadt, Berlin
  • Knappschaftskrankenhaus Bermannsheil-Buer, Gelsenkirchen

Austria

  • Private diagnostic practices of Dr Rudolf Stift, Vienna and Dr Günther Nics, Hollabrunn

"The affordable price point of this new technology and its ability to utilise existing X-ray systems is driving interest from a diverse list of providers," said Todd R. Minnigh, Carestream Health's Worldwide Director of Marketing, Digital X-ray. "These orders follow results from multiple test sites where feedback has consistently demonstrated productivity and flexibility improvements over CR."

One such test site was the University Hospital of Frankfurt, Germany where Prof. Thomas Vogl, M.D., Director of the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology said, "My overall impression of the system is absolutely outstanding. Of course, from a clinician's point of view one of the most important aspects of any system is the quality of the images it produces. In this respect, we have no problems - the image quality is very good."

Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, part of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust will be one of the first UK installations. Mark Rodgers, Radiology Services Manager for the Trust said: "We chose the DRX-1 because of the flexibility of having a fixed plate DR in a general room, allowing us to manage a planned increase in patient throughput. It's an ideal solution and easy to use, with the detector being the size, thickness and weight of a conventional cassette." He went on: "It will give us the flexibility to image patients quickly and efficiently and facilitate exams where it is difficult or painful to move the patient."

The DRX-1 System is also the basis for a new, fully integrated DR suite - the CARESTREAM DRX-Evolution - announced by Carestream Health at the recent DRK congress in Germany. This marries the DRX-1 with the advanced functionality of Carestream Health's award-winning, fully-featured KODAK DIRECTVIEW DR 7500 System, while providing a modular transition path to a single- or dual-detector X-ray room.

When combined with the DRX-1 system, the DRX-Evolution is designed to offer the positioning flexibility of a cassette-sized detector with the rapid workflow of a fully-automated DR suite. This breakthrough combination of advanced digital systems helps simplify even the most challenging X-ray views to help maximise productivity and enhance patient care.

By installing a DRX-1 system, healthcare providers can upgrade an existing X-ray room to DR technology without the need to retrofit existing X-ray equipment. The DRX-Evolution then makes it possible to take a "step by step" approach to a fully-featured single- or dual-detector DR suite as needed.
