eHealth Week 2012 Concludes in Copenhagen

A highlight of this year's conference was the keynote and presence of George C. Halvorson, CEO of Kaiser Permanente. With 900 spectators he captured his audience with his message about how lives could be saved by using better IT solutions in healthcare. Supported by solid facts from his organization, which provides healthcare to more than 9 million people, he persuaded the audience that investments in IT were necessary to improve the overall quality of healthcare in Europe.

6 European Hospitals win Awards
At the sold out HIMSS Analytics Europe Awards Dinner, 6 European hospitals were recognized with Stage 6 & 7 EMRAM awards, with the Spanish Marina Salud Hospital de Dénia receiving Stage 7. This is the second hospital in Europe to achieve this exceptional level of IT implementation. Uwe Buddrus, Managing Director of HIMSS Analytics Europe, said: "Marina Salud Hospital de Dénia is a rare example of a 100% paperless hospital and is a role model for what the hospital of the future should look like. This is a milestone for healthcare in Spain." Ángel Giménez, Managing Director, Hospital de Dénia, Marina Salud said: "The main benefits are for the patients, who receive a better care and a higher level of security."

eHealth Week 2013 goes to Ireland
Just before the final plenary, Kevin Conlon, Head of ICT from the Irish Department of Health, announced that eHealth week 2013 would be hosted in Ireland. Several partners have already expressed a keen interest in being part of the 4th consecutive eHealth week conference, organized by HIMSS Europe, the European Commission and the country that holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
