Secretary of State for Health to join Dame Fiona Caldicott at HC2013

Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Health will be joining Dame Fiona Caldicott to address delegates attending HC2013, the leading health IT event for the UK. Dame Fiona will be launching her long-awaited Caldicott Review report, which will be making recommendations on the balance between protecting and sharing information across the health and social care services in order to improve people's care.

The report will help to set the scene for how the NHS shares patient information whilst continuing to protect patient wishes and confidentiality against the backdrop of the government's ambitious plans for a digital NHS by 2018.

Dame Fiona Caldicott will give a presentation on her report during the keynote session titled: 'To share or not to share-The Information Governance Review' on 17th April, 16.00 - 16.45.

Stephen H. Lieber, CEO and president of HIMSS said: "HIMSS and the British Computer Society (BCS) have joined together to ensure that HC2013 is focused on its cause to improve healthcare by sharing best practice, innovation and lessons learned relating to healthcare IT.

HC2013 will be held at the Birmingham ICC on the 16-17th April 2013. Incorporating Health+In4matics, the essential two-day conference and exhibition is where the health community meets to discuss and debate the issues facing those who are involved in healthcare IT and want to use it to improve the efficiency and quality of health service.

This year's conference, which main theme is "Digital Health: realising the potential for information in health and care" brings together a rich mix of topics and themes addressing major issues in eHealth, snapshot of some of the technologies that are changing the way healthcare is delivered as well as progress report form healthcare organisations around the UK that are using IT to change healthcare delivery.
