It is a great pleasure for me to be with you here today at the opening of this year's World of Health IT conference. Health IT is becoming increasingly important for citizens, industry and healthcare authorities. The potential of eHealth and the interest it generates are demonstrated by the high level of participation in today's conference.

The European Commission, HIMSS Europe, the Ministry of Health and Consumption of Spain, and the Government of Catalonia are delighted to announce that the next World of Health IT conference and exhibition will be held in conjunction with the European Union's annual High Level eHealth Ministerial Conference in Barcelona on March 15-18, 2010.

Some of the world's leading healthcare technology vendors will be demonstrating the latest cutting edge technological advances in integrated healthcare at the World of Health IT conference and exhibition, which is being held at the Bella Center, Copenhagen, November 4-6, 2008.

As Good eHealth's main objective is to identify and communicate on good practices and their associated benefits, Good eHealth plays a prominent role in the educational sessions on the program of The World of Health IT 2008 Conference & Exhibition (WoHIT 2008). A good opportunity to take a close look at a number of interesting eHealth cases from the Knowledge Base.

Dealing with medical and care compunetics, the field of social, societal and ethical implications of computing and networking, ICMCC decided to focus the 2009 Event on Patient 2.0 Empowerment, more specific on Electronic Health Records (EHR) and secondarily, the connection between EHR and Digital Homecare.

For those who could not join the ICT-BIO 2008 in Brussels can still benefit from the high level speakers' presence and discussions via the webcasting put in place. The conference will take place over 2 days. Each day will start with a plenary session featuring high-level policy speakers including EU Commissioners, prominent scientists and international funding agency representatives from the EU, US and beyond.
