Recent exposure in the media has uncovered a 'looming crisis' in low standards of care provided by "at-home" care services for the elderly, and brought it directly to the public eye. The figures are a real cause for concern. According to Care Minister Norman Lamb, there are over 300,000 people currently relying on homecare services in the UK, yet a third of all care and nursing homes in England aren't meeting the necessary standards.

With the NHS in England needing to find between £15 and £20 billion in efficiency savings by 2014, there is clearly a very immediate case for helping ward staff work as productively as possible. Warrington CCG and Warrington & Halton NHS Foundation Trust have formed a partnership with HCS, the trading arm of HFMA, to help it deliver protocol-driven care for high-risk patient groups in the local population. As part of a joint and system wide approach being run across all Warrington service providers by its local commissioner, Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the HCS Care Coordination service will work with local community and acute clinical staff to provide expert guidance and advice.
