System C and First DataBank Sign Strategic Alliance

System C Healthcare plcFirst DataBank, the UK's leading provider of drug knowledge bases and electronic clinical decision support, announced details of a new contract with UK-based System C Healthcare plc. System C specialises in the design and development of clinical patient management and business intelligence software for the health sector.

Under the terms of the strategic alliance, First DataBank's Multilex Drug Data File (Multilex DDF) will be fully integrated with System C's Medway Patient Administration System to provide an enhanced electronic prescribing capability. Substantial development work has already been undertaken by the two companies.

"Multilex DDF is a comprehensive and widely-used drug knowledge base and we are delighted to be building it into the Medway PAS/EPR," said Dr Ian Denley, chief executive of System C.

"The development will provide rich integration within Medway between prescribing and other clinical functionality such as orders and alerts, which is essential for the management of integrated care pathways."

System C's Medway EPR has prescribing and medicines management built into the clinical pathway for both inpatients and outpatients. Designed by clinicians, Medway electronic prescribing offers comprehensive clinical decision support. This includes checks against pathology results and, via Multilex DDF, drug interactions, warnings, and access to full prescribing guidance.

The Medway EPR can also operate with integrated prescribing software from third parties, including JAC and Ascribe.

System C has worked with over 180 NHS Trusts, with health authorities, PCTs, the Department of Health and the Scottish Government Health Department, as well as with other suppliers to the NHS.

Dr Neill Jones, Clinical Director at First DataBank, commented: "System C has a proven record in the UK healthcare sector and a wealth of knowledge in clinical and patient administration systems. Through our partnership with System C, First DataBank will continue to extend the reach of Multilex DDF in secondary care settings across the UK."
